YouTube competitor analysis that reads the videos

Most competitor tools show views, tags and upload times. YouTubePilot also reads what your competitors said, so you can see why a video worked and what it left out.

What competitor analysis should answer

For a creator, competitor analysis is not about rankings. It is about four plain questions:

  1. Who are my real competitors, the channels my viewers also watch?
  2. What did they post lately, and how did each video do compared with their normal?
  3. What did they actually say in those videos?
  4. What are they covering that I'm not?

Most tools answer the first two. YouTubePilot answers all four.

Why raw views mislead

A channel with 2 million subscribers gets more views on a bad day than a 40,000-subscriber channel gets on a great one. Comparing raw views across channels tells you who is bigger, not what worked.

So YouTubePilot compares each video with its own channel. It divides the video's views by the median views of that channel's recent uploads. WorldofAI's Gemini 4 Argon video had 252.9K views. On its own that number means little. At 2.7× WorldofAI's usual views, it is a clear signal that the topic landed. Videos at 2× or more are marked as breakouts, in red. Videos only a day or two old are labeled too new to judge.

How it works

Setup takes about two minutes:

  1. Add your channel. Paste your @handle or channel URL.
  2. Add competitors. Add channels by @handle, or pick from suggestions found from your niche. Each suggestion is tagged by size, such as "Similar size".
  3. Get the report. YouTubePilot pulls each channel's recent uploads, reads the transcripts, and builds your Overview, Ideas, Gaps and Feed. The first report is ready a few minutes later.

Why it matters You have no Gemini 4 Argon video. WorldofAI’s upload drew 2.7× its usual views, and a second competitor upload covers Argon and benchmarks against your models.

Why it matters You have no dedicated Claude Code Mods video despite three competitor uploads in one day. This covers privacy, goals and cost controls; Nate’s signal is too new to judge.

Two Feed cards from a real AI-tools niche (October 2026). Each new competitor upload gets a short note on why it matters to your channel.

What you get

  • Overview. How many videos your competitors posted this week, how many were breakouts, and how many gaps are open for you.
  • Feed. Every new competitor upload with a short note: what it covers, how it is doing, and how it connects to your channel.
  • Gaps. Topics your competitors covered that you haven't, ranked by opportunity, with who said what.
  • Ideas. A short list of videos to make next, each with the competitor videos and quotes behind it.
  • Ask. Questions like "What are people saying about X?" answered from the transcripts, with links to the exact moments.
Who covered Claude Code Mods, and what did they say?

Nate Herk covered Claude Code Mods most extensively, with two recent videos. He said mods are plugins installed with /plugin in the CLI or desktop app and can be created through natural-language requests. He demonstrated five practical mods for next-step suggestions, cache monitoring, privacy redaction, goal tracking, and preventing file collisions. In a separate Cashkeeper demo, he showed how the mod tracks usage, cache timing, limits, and estimated API costs, then warns when the cache is close to expiring.1374

WorldofAI covered Mods as part of its Claude Code update. It described a moderator plugin that scans Claude’s output for important details, warnings, and useful information that could otherwise get buried. It also explained that users can customize the interface, behavior, and features, then highlighted a Token Weather mod that forecasts context-window fullness and charts usage across the previous 12 turns. WorldofAI concluded that Mods turn Claude Code into a customizable coding environment built around the user’s workflow.28

Across the recent videos as a whole, Nate has the broader hands-on coverage, while WorldofAI gives a shorter news-style explanation.

Picking the right competitors

The analysis is only as good as the channels you add. A few rules help:

  • Pick channels your viewers also watch, not just channels with the same keywords.
  • Favor channels near your size. Their wins are the ones you can repeat.
  • Add one or two bigger channels to see where the niche is going.
  • Drop channels that stopped uploading. Old wins say little about this month.

Doing this by hand means watching hours of video every week. YouTubePilot reads it for you, so the weekly check takes minutes. When something looks important, the timestamp takes you straight to it.

What it doesn't do

YouTubePilot doesn't estimate anyone's revenue, forecast subscribers, or show tags. It uses public data you could check yourself: videos, view counts, upload dates and transcripts. It can't read a video that has no captions. To look at one channel on its own, see the channel analyzer.

Questions

Is it OK to analyze competitors' YouTube channels?

Yes. YouTubePilot only uses public information: the videos, view counts and captions anyone can see. It doesn't log in to anyone's account.

How many competitors can I track?

The free report covers 3. Starter tracks 3, Creator 10, and Studio 25 per channel.

How often is the analysis updated?

Starter updates weekly with one manual refresh a day. Creator updates daily and Studio every 6 hours; both let you refresh any time.

Do I need my YouTube login or theirs?

No. You add channels by @handle or URL. We never ask for a password and never connect to a YouTube account.

What if a competitor's video has no captions?

Then there is no transcript to read. The rest of that channel's videos are still analyzed.
