We make YouTubePilot, so read this with that in mind. What we say about TubeBuddy comes from public information and from creator reviews on Reddit and Trustpilot that we read in October 2026. Plans and features change; check their site for the current version.
What TubeBuddy is good at
TubeBuddy is a browser extension that works inside YouTube. Creators like its bulk tools for editing many videos at once, its tag and keyword helpers, and its upload checklist. Its thumbnail A/B tests were a big draw for years. Its paid entry plan is cheap, and long-time users are often happy with it.
Why creators look for an alternative
- The extension and Studio. Some users reported the extension slowing YouTube Studio, or interfering with titles and descriptions during upload.
- A/B testing is now built in. YouTube Studio has its own thumbnail test and compare, which removed a main reason to pay.
- Billing and support. Several reviews described trouble cancelling and slow replies from support.
- Generic advice. Some found the recommendations too general for their channel.
Your experience may differ. These are the patterns we saw in 2025-2026 reviews.
How YouTubePilot is different
YouTubePilot doesn't try to replace TubeBuddy's upload tools. It does the research before the upload:
- It follows the channels you compete with and reads the transcripts of their recent videos.
- It shows which videos beat their channel's usual views.
- It lists content gaps: topics they cover and you don't.
- It gives you a short list of ideas, each with the videos and quotes behind it.
- It runs in your browser like any website. Nothing is installed, and it never touches your upload page.
- It never connects to your YouTube account. We never post, edit or upload.

What a week looks like
On Monday, you open YouTubePilot. The Overview shows how many videos your competitors posted that week and how many broke out. The Feed lists each upload with a note on why it matters to you. Ideas gives you three to five picks, each with the videos behind it. You pick one, click "Create brief", and get a title, a hook and an outline that covers what the others missed. Then you film and upload as usual, with whatever tools you already use.
When to keep TubeBuddy
If you use bulk edits or manage a large back catalog, TubeBuddy still saves real time. YouTubePilot won't edit anything on your channel.
If you are paying for TubeBuddy mainly to figure out what to make next, YouTubePilot is built for that job. Start with the free report and compare.
